My interview in Arlington completely defied my expectations. I had read reviews about rude staff, but everyone—from security to the officer—was incredibly kind. I had imagined a stern, older officer, but instead we were greeted by a sweet, young African American woman.

The 3.5-hour interview was surprisingly relaxed, and not once did she try to catch me off guard with tricky questions. At one point, she asked if I wanted a break. I thought she’d come back recharged and start grilling me, so I said “no.” But in reality, she didn’t pressure me at all, and we wrapped up quickly. Still, it didn’t feel rushed—everything important was asked. All the questions were expected thanks to my preparation.

Looking back, I would’ve updated the translation of my story. I wrote it myself nine years ago. I should’ve at least had a professional translator review it. That way, I wouldn’t have had to explain to the officer nine years later what I actually meant—and what Google Translate had spit out back then.

My interview in Miami was difficult. I wasn’t allowed to fully answer — the officer kept asking for the shortest possible response, even when a short answer wasn’t really possible. She repeatedly pressed me on whether absolutely everyone connected to the former political administration was being persecuted. She also asked twice whether I had been stopped or questioned at the airport when I left the country.

I’m incredibly grateful for UAWelcome’s support and will recommend them to everyone.

My interview in Chicago was a very positive experience. The officer was a kind and pleasant woman. There were no tricky or misleading questions. She reviewed the timeline of events twice, likely to check for consistency. Overall, everything went very smoothly, and I’m grateful for how the process went.

My advice to my past self: believe that everything will be okay. The most important thing is to work hard and keep moving toward your goals and dreams.
